Cookie policy
Definition of cookies
A cookie is defined as a file recorded by the machine's navigation tool in a dedicated storage space. It is stored when a website is consulted. Its storage on the hard disk in no way gives rise to the disclosure of personal information about the Internet user. Thanks to this text file, the website can identify the terminal in which it is stored and memorise the information necessary for its use.
These are unique files. To find out whether a site uses cookies, simply open the site and a warning message appears. This window, also known as a cookie pop-up, allows Internet users to consent to the use of cookies each time they visit the platform. It generally only appears once.
How cookies work
Cookies do not directly identify a user, as they contain neither first nor last names. This is done by the terminal's browser. The term "cookie" may also refer to different technologies, such as invisible tags or digital images embedded in web pages or emails. As a general rule, the life of a cookie is a maximum of thirteen months after it is recorded in the machine's storage space. It cannot be extended during new visits to the platform.
Online platforms collect information about web users using their IP addresses and cookies. The IP makes it possible to determine where visitors come from, whether by city, region or country. To ensure that cookies are used correctly, the French Data Protection Authority (Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés or CNIL) has drawn up a law to help strengthen the protection of website visitors.
